Our Participatory Action Research Projects provide an opportunity for everyone to explore new ideas, see what works and what doesn’t, and make adjustments along the way. The projects below are just some of those underway, more are coming soon…

Renew

Renew is an emerging social enterprise offering work opportunities to people who are disadvantaged in seeking employment. No previous experience necessary, only the desire to get involved in this new project.

Revive

A range of free community-led workshops and supported activities in a variety of subjects to help gain a variety of skills and advocate wellbeing.

RWNS community cafe

The Refugees’ Welcome Cafe is a place or people resettled into Weston to find local friends, support and help.

English language classes

English language classes run by RENS take place weekly on a Friday, 12pm to 3pm.

Bengali language classes

Bangla classes for children run by the Bangladeshi Association are taking place weekly.

Ago Ame

Ago Ame is a newly formed action group for the African Caribbean community in Weston. It meets weekly on a Monday evening.

Crystals and Chakras

Crystals and Chakras with Sabine Gocher starting on Friday 8th April at 1pm Every Friday for 5 weeks.

PC building with Chris Baldwin starting on
Monday 4th April at 6pm Every Monday for 4 weeks.

Aroma Therapy and Wax melts

Aromatherapy and wax melts with Sabine Gocher starting on Wednesday 6th April at 1pm in Every Wednesday for 5 weeks.

Community Soup

The Stable Community SOUP is to help change our local community by bringing together members of the community to pitch their ideas for improving our town.

Community Soup: The library of things

The library of things Weston aims to reduce waste by offering affordable ‘things’ to rent such as drills, sound systems and sewing machines from your community.

Community Soup: Stiches

 Stitches saves unwanted fabrics and uses a workshop where people can learn new skills in order to create affordable premature baby clothes, clothes for local charities and upcycled fashion.

Community Soup: Prom dress hire

The aim of Community Soup: Prom dress hire is to give the community affordable, good quality prom dresses available to borrow.

Shore up Weston: Enterprise Guild

The “Enterprise Guild” offers workshops, one-on-one mentoring and networking events designed to cultivate enterprise skills, as well as encourage a sense of community engagement.

Shore up Weston: Citizen Journalism

“Citizen journalism” is a series of free workshops in Citizen Journalism, which is defined as writing that describes, reflects and in turn shapes the communities in which we live.

LGBT+ Forum: Colours

Colours is a free social group for 13-17 year olds who are LGBT+, questioning or allies, and want to socialise in a safe space, or want to learn more about what support is available.

LGBT+ Forum: 50+

50+ is a free social group for members of the LGBT+ community who are over the age of 50. It’s one of the monthly groups run by the North Somerset LGBT+ Forum, in collaboration with Curo.

LGBT+ Forum: Trans+

Trans+ is a support group for individuals over the age of 18 who are part of North Somerset’s transgender, non-binary and gender-questioning community. We meet on the first Wednesday of the month and welcome anyone who is questioning their gender, transitioning or a trans ally.

LGBT+ Forum: Family+

Family+ is a group for parents and family members of LGBT+ individuals to ask questions, get support and information, or just pop along for a chat! Children under the age of 13 are welcome to attend if supervised by a parent or guardian.

LGBT+ Forum: Rumble in the jumble

Our Rumble in the Jumble Fundraisers and Community check ins take place most Sundays, either in our HQ on Meadow Street, Weston-super-Mare, or occasionally in one of the local towns or venues within North Somerset as part of our Rumble in the Jumble Roadshow and Community Support Days.

T.A.S.H (Talk about supported housing)

T.A.S.H is a group for supported housing tenants to talk about their situation and find new opportunities as well as work together to see how to increase wellbeing and opportunities.

Mythology

Mythology of Ancient Civilizations with Zac Turnbull starting on Saturday 16th April at 12pm Every Saturday for 5 weeks.

Jewellery making

Jewellery making with Perzha Fattah starting on Tuesday 5th April at 10am Every Tuesday for 4 weeks.

Film Weston

Film Weston is a community cinema project to screen regular films for the community.
